SEANAN McGUIRE is the author of the Wayward Children series, beginning with the Hugo, Nebula, Alex, and Locus Award-winning Every Heart a Doorway, the October Daye urban fantasy series, the InCryptid series, and other works. She also writes darker fiction as Mira Grant. Seanan lives in Seattle with her cats, a vast collection of creepy dolls, horror movies, and sufficient books to qualify her as a fire hazard. She was the winner of the 2010 John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer, and in 2013 she became the first person ever to appear five times on the same Hugo ballot.

Note: you can read each of the „Wayward Children“ books as a stand-alone, but I‘d at least read „Every Heart a Doorway“, because the epilogue will make a lot more sense and have a lot more impact.ReviewI loved „Every Heart a Doorway“ a lot, the concept of it and the way it was written, everything about it. And: I love „In an absent Dream“ even more. I was wondering, if the backstory of Ms. Lundy could be anyhow interesting, but boy! I shouldn’t have doubted Seanan McGuire.When Katherine Lundy is eight years old, a door to the Goblin Market opens. A world, where fair value must be given by everyone for everything. The Market enforces its rules in strange and lyrical ways, but Lundy (as names have power, she is only called Lundy at the world of the Goblin Market) is someone who likes rules, who makes a home at the Goblin Market, all strange and dangerous quests and bargains aside. The other worlds portrayed in the „Wayward Children“ series usually open only once, twice max, to the kids. But Lundy‘s door is different, she can come and go as she likes, as long as she makes her oath of citizenship to the Market before she turns eighteen.The way her life turns out „at home“ and at the Market is brilliantly shown in just the right words and with just the right events. The writing is awesome and Lundy is a character as interesting as they come. The end of the story is heartbreaking and wonderful at the same time. One of the best stories I’ve ever read.
This book is so beautiful, and so heartbreaking. Especially since, if you've read Every Heart a Doorway, you know how it ends from the start, but you're still just hoping that it won't end that way. Probably my favourite of the series after EHaD.
